Dear friends,
Writing to you after a weekend full of good music, good food, and good nature time in Vernon, Vermont! I feel so grateful!!!!
I was recording a special project that I will tell you about soon… but it includes some super deep folk music, poetry, and loads of shape-note choral compositions (a musical tradition to which I am very new!).
This picture is from the wrap of the very last track we recorded - a beautiful song called Seed of Night…. here I am with Yann Falquet (our audio engineer and also a musical hero of mine in the amazing band called Genticorum among other collaborations), the best dulcimer player and singer I know, Sarah Kate Morgan of hailing from Kentucky, and the dear Brendan Taaffe, our fearless leader (an amazing facilitator of song, composer, homesteader, culinary expert, beautiful soul…). Not pictured is Brendan’s beautiful dog Blue! <3
seed of night, o how it grows… gone the light, but now it shows
Up next….
I’ll be on an AMAZING project with a stacked repertoire and personnel line-up which will take me back to VERMONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am now vermont’s biggest fan. Did you hear? To collaborate with Sophie Michaux & Tiny Glass Tavern is a total DREAM <3 So so thrilled…
We will be playing the LEGENDARY Burren Back room in Somerville on April 11th, Epsilon Spires in Brattleboro on April 12th and Northampton Centre for the Arts at 33 Hawley on Sunday 4/13. The link to tickets and info can be found HERE.
One month remains to SING-UP! (yes, you read that correctly!)
Starting April 14th I’ll be resuming teaching out of the beautiful Somerville Music Spaces. Together we can focus on and explore the following - and if there is something you’re not seeing on this list and are curious what else might be possible, let’s chat!
vocal technique across genres (pop, folk, musical theatre, informed by my classical training).
vocal range and color expansion/exploration
song selection (finding the right key, etc.).
finding your “authentic voice” - what does it mean to sing “authentically” when there are so many colors, songs, options etc. available to us?
self-accompanying and arranging songs for piano, guitar, and ukulele
singing in harmony together (in duo, trio, ensemble).
singing as comfort and release - opening the voice up to provide emotional solace/release (deeply focusing on breath, mindfulness, and body awareness)
music theory and aural (ear) training
musical/creative direction sessions

Still Unsure!? Here’s what current and former students have to say!
Erin is a wonderful teacher and luminous spirit; working with her has helped me feel more confident in my tone and vocal control. She has also encouraged me and helped me sound more like me, which I am so grateful for!!!
I had such an incredible experience working with Erin at the Passim School of Music. Erin's energy and positivity was incredibly encouraging - I felt like I could discover my own voice, get out of my comfort zone, take risks, and learn how to better harmonize with a group of voices. I left every class feeling lighter and with a HUGE smile on my face. I hope to sing with and learn from Erin again soon!
I recently took a Vocal Harmony class with Erin Hogan. Folks in this small class had different musical backgrounds. Many felt a bit self-conscious about singing, but Erin created a comfortable space for everyone to take musical risks and not worry about “mistakes." I was impressed by Erin's musical talent, but also by her kind and thoughtful responses to each individual in our group. Plus, she has a great sense of humor. This class was a lot of fun!
As someone who’s always been self-conscious about singing, Erin has opened up a whole new world for me! She’s warm and adaptive to individual needs :)
Erin is a very fun and comforting spirit, with ability to bounce ideas off easily and help develop ideas.
That’s all for now :) With so much love!
hugs,
erin
